If you would like to lighten and brighten your smile then teeth whitening might be for you. With time we loose the shine and brightness in our teeth. This could be due to a number of reasons e.g. heavy tea and coffee consumption, smoking, diet etc. Whitening is the perfect solution to liven up your smile and have your teeth looking like white pearls. At Crescent Dental we offer in-chair whitening that will give patients an immediate result in just one hour.
Advantages
With in office whitening (also called bleaching) you are able to get immediate results,which is a huge benefit. You don’t have to spend a lot of time at home wearing whitening trays for weeks and waiting for the results. In chair whitening gives instant results thus making it perfect for busy people or last minute commitments.
Disadvantages
The only disadvantage to in chair whitening is that some patients may experience sensitivity in their teeth and gums. These symptoms will disappear after treatment and should not be a concern. You will soon forget about that when you are showing off your white smile.
What is In Chair Whitening?
In chair whitening is a painless way to brighten up your smile. It is done at the dental surgery in one appointment that usually lasts for an hour to and hour and a half. The procedure is done in one of our treatment rooms. The dentist applies a formulated whitening gel on your teeth, which is activated by a specially developed LED light and dissolves the staining and discoloration in your enamel to enhance the shade of your teeth. This process is repeated a few times to achieve the best possible results.
We offer Australian Dental Association approved whitening solution called Zoom®. Phillips Zoom® is the world leader in teeth whitening technology and all products are test extensively to ensure they are safe for your teeth and gums.
How Does Teeth Whitening Last?
Many factors determine the longevity of your whitening treatment; these include the severity of discoloration, response of your teeth to whitening, as well as diet and habits (such as smoking). If you can limit foods and drinks that may stain your teeth such as black tea, coffee and curries and limit (or preferably give up smoking the effects of whitening would last a long time. Keeping good oral hygiene as well as regular visits to dentist for check ups will also help prolong the effects.
Precautions:
Nowadays bleaching is carried out even by non-professional using unsafe products that damage not only your teeth and gums but are also deleterious to your health. ADA is taking very strict action against such parties. Being treated at Crescent dental you can be rest assured that the treatment is effective and safe with the knowledge of exactly what solution is being used.

As a part of your appointment and check up at Smile On Dubbo & Narromine, we will examine you teeth and alert you to any signs of decay and tooth cavities. In case we find that cavities are present or if any of the teeth have chipped and fractured we will advise fillings to restore your teeth carefully shaping your new filling to match your tooth’s original contour. However there may be a need or more complex treatment if the decay present is extensive or if the crack in the tooth is moderately large or has compromised the strength of the tooth extensively.
CERAMIC INLAYS AND ONLAYS
Tooth structure could be lost due trauma, decay or wearing/grinding. Such conditions are damaging not only to ones oral health but general health and well-being as well. If the damage is too severe to be fixed with simple fillings but not as serious to require a crown… we can offer the option of porcelain inlays and onlays to strengthen your teeth and bite.
What are Inlays and Onlays?
Inlays and onlays are partial crowns made of very strong porcelain/ceramics. An Inlay is used to fill the damage that is restricted to the middle of the tooth and is not extending to the sides, where as Onlyas are used to treat damage that has reached the sides of the tooth. Once they are cemented they are indistinguishable from the natural tooth. Both of these are custom made to fit your tooth perfectly and are a great option to restore the health and appearance of your smile.
There are many advantages of ceramic fillings as opposed to white composite or crowns:
- They are much more stronger then composites and are designed to be cemented to the tooth which increases the strength of the missing tooth structure to be able to withstand heavy chewing forces.
- There is not as much preparation of the tooth and we can preserve as much remaining tooth as possible.
- The are a lot more natural looking than amalgum and composite fillings.
- They are cheaper than crowns. As only the damaged tooth structure is replaced lesser material is used in fabrication and therefore the cost is not as much as well.
- Another advantage is the very high success rate, as they are made of high strength ceramics, they are a very long lasting option compared to white composite fillings.
- As X-rays can pass through these fillings dentists can pick up any signs of decay quickly and recommend replacement before its too late.
How are Inlays and Onlays placed?
First the tooth needs to be prepared to receive the Inlay/Onlay. For this the entire decayed tooth structures needs to be removed and a proper shape given to the remaining tooth. A digital impression is taken of the tooth and is sent to our milling machine for digital designing and fabrication. Once the staining and glazing is finalized to match the shade of the existing tooth, it is cemented to the tooth. Once the permanent inlay/onlay is cemented you can brush, eat and chew as normal.
Composite fillings are white fillings that are made of an adhesive plastic material, which is in the same colour as your teeth. For centuries Silver/amalgum fillings have been used for filling cavities but now dentistry has moved forward and amalgam fillings are very rare. Some of the problems with amalgum fillings is that :
- They are dark in colour so are very unsightly especially in the front;
- As they are not adhesive the need more tooth drilling which weakens the tooth;
- Leads to fractures as the amalgum itself is wedged into the tooth;
- discolours the tooth over time;
- Marginal leakage and caries can occur with us knowing about it and it does not let X-rays pass through.
The benefits of having a tooth coloured filling are many. They include appearance as well asbeing adhesive.A white composite filling will have a positive effect on your dental health as well as your smile and looks;
- As composite fillings are the same colour as your teeth you will not be able to see them when laughing smile and talking.
- Composite fillings are adhesive and they tend to hold the tooth together rather than splitting or fracturing it like silver/amalgum fillings.
- As X-rays can pass through these fillings dentists can pick up any signs of decay quickly and recommend replacement before its too late. Dental problems are more visible to dentists in x-rays with a tooth coloured filling.

You would have seen such treatment performed in TV shows for creating a “Hollywood smile” or in celebrity makeover shows whereveneers are regularly used to bring the best smile of the person. These can be made to resemble any shape or colour that you desire so you could have the smile of your dreams*.
- Veneers are very conservative option for altering your smile. The advantage of veneers over crowns is that is that because they are so thin, they need very little tooth structure to be removed.
- They are very difficult to stain and maintain their lustre for a long time.
- They are strong and durable and on average last from 10-15years. Some veneers could last for over 30years.
After cementation patients may require a few weeks to adjust to their new smile and this can effect speech and possibly the bite. This is There is minor sensitivity that may be experienced in the gums (and rarely in the tooth) following cementation which recovers in a few weeks as well.
Who should consider veneers for treating their smile?
If any of the following applies to you, then veneers may be a very good option for you;

- If youwant high-quality and successful treatment?
Process of Dental Veneers:
If you would like to go ahead with veneers, we will thoroughly examine your mouth to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy and in a good condition to receive veneers. Your teeth with then be prepared for veneers by removing tooth structure in areas where required so that the new veneers would give the most natural and pleasing appearance.
We then take a digital impression of the teeth to take a precise 3D computerized scan of your teeth and use our CAD/CAM machine to fabricate the veneers from ceramic ingots that are colourmatched and then strengthen them with an in-house oven. Once milled and baked they are cemented to your existing teeth and adjustments made where necessary before cementing them with permanent cement and you would be able to show off your dazzling smile!
A less expensive alternative to porcelain veneers is direct composite veneers. The main disadvantage of composite veneers is that they are not strong. Although they do not last as long, and may require replacement every couple of years, composite veneers may be an ideal solution for teeth with small chips and cracks, or to fill a tiny gap between teeth.
